Katie focuses her practice on business law, contract drafting and negotiation, and commercial real estate. Katie has over nineteen years of experience in general business and corporate law, which has involved a myriad of issues as wide-ranging as real property title issues, employment law, small business and non-profit incorporation, mergers and acquisitions, commercial loan restructuring, collections and foreclosure, condemnation, and commercial landlord-tenant law. Katie enjoys putting her diverse experience to work to help clients meet their business challenges.
EXPERIENCE AND FIELDS OF PRACTICE
Katie is privileged to work with a variety of clients, including businesses and individuals, national and regional banks, engineering firms, research organizations, veterinary and medical practices, non-profits, and commercial and residential service providers. She regularly drafts, reviews, and negotiates commercial real estate and business purchase and sale agreements, employment contracts and severance agreements, confidentiality and non-compete agreements, and corporate governance and shareholder agreements. She has also prepared multi-faceted commercial loan packages, including promissory notes, loan agreements, borrowing authorizations, guaranties, assignments, and security agreements covering personal and real property. Katie drafts and negotiates master services agreements with biopharma study sponsors and clinical trial agreements with study sites, complex IT vendor contracts, service contracts for HVAC and pest control companies, and business purchase and sale agreements.
Katie also has extensive experience in commercial loan workouts and commercial foreclosures involving properties ranging from multi-million-dollar commercial buildings to residential subdivisions to vacant land. She has worked with businesses, large and small, to assist them in getting organized or incorporated and structuring ownership and governance. Katie also enjoys handling condemnation matters to help her clients receive fair compensation when their property is taken by a government entity.

- Represented landowner in negotiating multi-million-dollar ground lease with large regional healthcare system.
- Represented national bank in complex settlement and liquidation involving multiple residential developments in varying stages of completion.
- Worked with lender in successful workout with contentious borrower involving multiple franchises, real property, restaurant equipment, and corporate stock as collateral.
- Successfully negotiated services agreements between local contract research organization and leading international pharmaceutical companies.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Katie serves on the Board of the Coastal Women’s Forum, a non-profit organization that promotes self-development for women in Eastern North Carolina and provides business, professional, volunteer, and personal networking opportunities.
